In Season: August to November
Although pears don’t grow in our area, there are a number of vendors who bring them in from other regions of Ontario when they are in season. Pears are delicious eaten raw, poached or baked into desserts. Pears are also a wonderful companion to rich cheeses such as brie or blue as well as toasted nuts - try them with these ingredients in a salad!
Store pears at room temperature on your counter or in a fruit basket.
Pears are very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. They are also a good source of Vitamin C and Vitamin K, and a very good source of Dietary Fibre.
