Ron and Diana Coutts have both been farming their entire lives and vending at the Kingston Public Market for 15 years. Ron comes from a background of beef, maple syrup and dairy and Diana from a vegetable farm. The Coutts’ produce and sell certified organic Belgium blue beef (which is lower in fat and cholesterol then other types), vegetables, maple syrup and a variety of maple products.
They are also the proud owners and operators of Coutts Country Flavours Farm Store which is located at RR5 Perth, County Road 18 near the Rideau Ferry. Their store winter hours are Friday and Saturday 10-6pm and Sundays 11-5pm. Summer hours start in May and are Wednesday to Saturday 10-6pm and Sundays 10-5pm. The farm store also supports 21 other local farmers and offers naturally raised lamb, turkey, chicken, emu, elk, buffalo, pork as well as local vegetables and fruit. They also have a bakery in which they use maple syrup instead of sugar in their baked goods. They also make homemade preserves and jams and offer frozen vegetables out of the garden in winter months.
They participate in a food safety and traceability program where all meat and maple syrup products can be traced back to its place of origin and meet the most up to date industry standards. They have also completed an environmental plan and conservation program for their farm.
